About Jeremy Broun

Jeremy (Jez) Broun was Abbotsholme school's first A level woodwork candidate gaining Grade A. He then went on to train at Shoreditch College as a Handicraft teacher gaining a Distinction on the Advanced Wood course. He taught for six years in secondary schools in London, Glasgow and Bristol and at Millfield school where he also coached trampolining. During this time he studied for Membership of the College of Craft Education (MCCEd) winning the Vivian William national prize for highest marks in the written examinations.

He set up his own workshop in Bath in 1973 after a short period helping establish the Dove Centre of Creativity near Glastonbury. He won a
Churchill Travel Scholarship to study furniture design, manufacture and retailing in Sweden, Finland and
Italy in 1979. The same year he was nominated a
Fellow of the Society of Designer Craftsmen. In 1980 he was elected as a Member of the Crafts Council Index of Selected Makers.

Broun is the author of four woodworking books.
The Incredible Router was a bestseller and a pioneer works on the creative use of the tool.
In 1993
The Encyclopedia of Woodworking Techniques was voted in the "Top 200 Titles" by the UK Booksellers
Association (65,000 titles published that year).

Other awards include the
Ambrose Heal Award 1988 and Masters Prize 1989 from the Worshipful Company of
Furniture Makers for documentary craft videos.

Education is at the heart of Jez Broun's passion for design and woodworking and as an innovator he continues to be at the forefront of British design in wood.
In 2006 he won
