The public perception that old and new cannot mix , that solid wood is superior to veneer, or that Chippendale was the finest craftsman of his age are more to do with myth than fact.  The biggest myth 'they don't make it like they used to' will be rocketed into outer space by anyone viewing these unique DVDs or attending the lecture. At last a serious in depth appraisal of our valuable furniture design culture by a leading practitioner.

A multi media presentation by award winning furniture designer maker and writer Jez Broun of interest to cultural societies, students, interior
designers, architects, colleges, libraries, galleries, individuals.

What is Furniture Today about ?
F
urniture (like architecture) is a barometer to social, economic and spiritual change. The furniture of today is a continuum of tradition and the best examples equal if not surpass the work of any  previous era - yet is largely unseen.

Contemporary furniture is only just beginning to become appreciated (thanks to largely to IKEA)  and yet the past hundred years or so boasts some of the most exciting furniture ever created.

Jez Broun, a member of a small group of independent makers who pioneered the Seventies British Furniture Craft Revival unravels the present
New Golden Age of British  Furniture against the backcloth of Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, Bauhaus, Italian and Scandinavian design
adding personal anecdotes which bring his lecture and the
DVDs alive.

The first lecture was a one day multi media presentation at Bath University in March 2004 and has laid the basis for tailor-made shorter lectures (eg one hour) for other organizations since.

It has taken two years to produce two DVDs.
After viewing you will never look at a piece of furniture in the same way again !  Over 800 topic references
